Nigeria’s U17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, have made history by reaching the final of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup for the first time following a 3-1 victory over Brazil in the semi-finals on Wednesday night, November 4.

The historic victory was powered by goals from Queen Joseph and Awawu Bashiru, who scored twice to secure Nigeria’s place in the final.

Joseph opened the scoring in the 56th minute before Bashiru doubled Nigeria’s advantage in the 71st minute. The forward completed her brace in the 80th minute to put the game beyond Brazil’s reach.

The achievement marks the Flamingos’ best-ever finish in the competition, surpassing their previous record of winning the bronze medal at the 2022 edition.

With the victory, Nigeria will now face Japan in the final as they seek to win their first-ever FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup title.
